So, you've read on your own, performed some Sabbat and Esbat Rituals and feel that your connection with Deity is strong. Time to join a coven, right? Not so fast!
First of all, what type of coven are you looking for? If you are considering a teaching coven within a Traditional setting here are a few things that the High Priestess will be considering:
How Old Are You?
*Most covens will not consider anyone under 21 with a few not considering anyone under the age of 25. SpiritFlame prefers those at age 25 or over, but will make the occasional exception. It is generally accepted that those people under the age of 25 still have some living and learning to do--as well as schooling-- that a coven study program may inhibit.
How Settled is Your Personal Life?
*Are you employed or in college and can you get appropriate time off for studies and coven activities?
*Do you have children and if so do you have reliable daycare for those coven meetings NOT acceptable for children's attendance?
*Do you have reliable transportation to get to and from coven activities?
*Are you married or involved with a 'significant other'? If so is this person accepting of your coven duties or will it be a continual fight for you to get to meetings?
*Have you recently moved, been involved with a divorce or separation or had a child? Its best to NOT add traditional studies to any of the previous scenarios but rather to settle the current upheaval before taking on the rigors of coven involvement.
Are you Dedicated to the Amount of Time Required?
*SpiritFlame's study program encompasses approximately 4 years of training and study. Its Hard Work! Most students will find that the studies take about 1o hours per week of their time. Coven meetings and outside activities can take another 10 per month on average. Before joining you have to be sure that you can commit to this amount of time. It is perfectly do-able--I promise! It just needs to be a priority...
Do you truly WANT to train to serve The Gods?
If so then the right teacher and group will come along when you are most available to accept the obligations.
Traditional training is a huge step and not something to be jumped into lightly. I hope the above list has helped you to decide if it is a feasible step for you at this point in your life.

Be Well,
Rowan
