Coven of the Silver Branch

Coven of the Silver Branch is the cyber-coven for Spirit Flame Tradition.
It is here that those who wish to train with us but are not geographically close enough to physically participate may become apart of our vibrant and growing Craft community.

Requirement of Distance Training

Distance Students with Spirit Flame are members of our Coven of the Silver Branch. If you are interested in joining in this manner due to your current geographical location it is important that you know and agree to the stipulations for this in advance as well as discussing these things with your family,partner,etc. Take all the time you need to go over the following requirements and whether or not you would be able to abide by them:

1.) Distance Students must join the e-group set up for the Coven of the Silver Branch and post to it regularly. Distance Students are also encouraged to join the e-group Living Witchcraft and to post regularly.
2.) Distance Students must send in --or reply to-- a weekly update with their HPs or HP. Failure to check in will result in a warning. 3 consecutive warnings will result in dismissal from the temple rolls.
3.) Members of the Coven of the Silver Branch are expected to do a Self -Dedication Ritual which will be provided to them. However, all Initiations and Elevations will be done in person at Spirit Flame's annual camping which occurs in the summer in Northern Michigan.
Details for this will be provided well ahead of time but if you cannot travel it is suggested that you not apply.
4.) Finally--while Spirit Flame is not a social organization there is a closeness and feeling of family amongst its members. As a solitary distance student you will have to work harder to maintain a connection to the group as well as maintaining momentum in your lesson work. This is completely possible, but many have been taken by surprise at the initial difficulty of it.
5.) The written lessons will be mailed by 'snail mail' and will be in hard-copy format. These Lessons are considered Oath-Bound Material and should be kept as such. If it is found that a distance student is teaching Spirit Flame Material without written permission from the Home Fire Coven-and Lady Rowan personally-that person will be immediately severed from the group. There is no charge for lessons but printing and mailing costs are required to be reimbursed to your Teacher. This is approximately $5.00 per lesson.
Lessons will vary in time-- please count on putting anywhere from 5 to 15 hours a month into your Studies, more if you have formed a Study Group that meets regularly.(see below)
and finally...
6.) It is strongly suggested- but not required- that Distance Students pair up with another person that they know in their area and join together. This alleviates much of the 'I'm all alone' type of feeling. The second (or third or fourth) person would also need to fill out a application, be appraised of the requirements and pay the yearly dues meaning that they are Distance Students in their own right. This type of situation will, in effect, begin a formal Study Group of the Coven of the Silver Branch but will not be considered an individual coven in and of itself.
